Shorpy, History in HD
I absolutely love old photos. Thanks to Dan Cederholm for the link to Shorpy.com. These photos are just amazing and really tell a tale of the history of our country.
Shorpy is a blog about old photos and what life a hundred years ago was like: How people looked and what they did for a living, back when not having a job usually meant not eating.
Many of the jpegs on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress archive. (To query the database click here.) Most were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color using Photoshop CS3, a process that can take around an hour per image.
