Developing an iPhone / iPod Touch App

I’m not a programmer, and I don’t own an iPhone or iPod Touch, but the thought of developing an application for this platform interests me. I think I’m going to spend some time going through the App Store to see what is offered and try to think of something that may be missing.

Looks like it’s $99 to join the iPhone Developer Program (Standard) and there may be some financial backing from the iFund to help develop apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

  1. That’s a great idea. Some devs have made quite a nice chunk of money selling their apps, even the simple 99 cent utilities like tip calculators and cheesy TicTacToe type games are nice.

Personally, I think you should build a Geocache app that links to some cache site and works with the iPhone’s location-awareness to let the user know if there are any caches nearby. Imagine how useful that would be on a hunt.

I have no idea how you’d do it, but I’ve not seen anything like this on the store so far, and I browse around there on my iPhone quite a bit.
