Bailout Accountability vs. Child Support

I couldn’t help but link these two subjects together. With all of the news of large corporations getting bailout money from the government we often see these companies making the news when we see how the money is being spent. Big bonuses and new corporate jets for everyone! Ok, so I am exagerating a bit there. But it has taken the public eye because it is our taxpayer money that is going to these companies. We hope that they will be able to turn their companies around and pay every penny back with interest.

Maybe now more people will understand the anger people feel who pay child support. This is something we have felt forever and yet our concerns fell on deaf ears. Leaving the sexist comments out of this topic because I know that both men and women can pay child support. Our money goes to Domestic Relations which is then sent to the custodial parent. The custodial parent can then spend that money any way they like. They do not have to prove to anyone that the money is spent on the child. Yet not a single person seems to care about this situation. There is absolutely no accountability on the custodial parents part.

As for the person who pays the child support, we are held very accountable. If we decide to not pay, we go to jail. If we miss a payment, we are no longer eligible to purchase a home. These child support laws differ from state to state, and county to county. But I wish the laws would change so that us child support paying parents can see some documentation as to how the money is being spent on our children. Just the way all of us Americans would like to see how the bailout money is being spent by the corporations. We want to see a return on our investment!

  1. Isn’t having a living healthy child with a roof over her head and parents who love her a return on your investment? After all, there are many parents who can’t pay child support and do go to jail, kids who don’t have parents who give two shits about their well being, nor even have a home or anything to eat, and who spend a lot of the time on the streets and getting into trouble. Kids are expensive; they’re another human being. And whether you’re paying child support or not, parents are important.

  2. I believe you are missing the point. There’s just as many parents who take the child support and still don’t give two shits about their children. Just because your a parent doesn’t mean you can spend child support money with no accountability. If the money was going towards putting a roof of the child’s head, or putting food on the table, or towards education, that is fine. All that we ask as child support paying parents is to see the transactions with our child support money.

I got your point Jon. The court doesn’t necessarily award all the prizes to the parent who is best for the child. It is awful that they can throw you in jail, take your license and your house if you don’t pay support, while the supported can go buy a fifth of hooch on your hard-earned money. It also sucks that the earner pays taxes on that money while the support-ee doesn’t have to claim it as income for taxes, college grants, anything.

  3. Another good point CJ. The child support paying parent pays taxes on the child support money. Yet they can not claim that expense.

I just think if I pay for the child, I should be able to claim the child on my taxes not the ex. It’s only fair, the ex is not paying for the child I am. RIGHT?????????

wow… what an angry, ill-logical liberal we have. i don’t want to pay child support for YOU… what a hypocrite

“Yours truly excited about a new president and looking forward to a national health care system”

healthcare is not a right, that is a fact. if you think not, just show where it is written. also, what i work for is mine… NOT yours or anyone else’s.

now you risk fines and possible prison and you have to prove your are legal… all while illegals do not. wow… sounds a lot like child support enforcement.

grow the hell up. this was never about healthcare, it was about control and adding to a voting base. you can be covered without any pre conditions or termination in EVERY STATE. wait… no you can’t… i forgot… you COULD be but the government says no selling across state lines. wow… more hypocrisy.

    you libs are soooooo brain-washed.
